USING SLACK
- Chat in Channels
- Multiple public channels are already in place that you can join such as your major. (Handy for those cohort questions or to ask which professor to take for x class).
- Any member can create a new channel.
- Start a new line instead of send? On the desktop App just use Shift+Enter
- Direct Messages – Don’t know your sister’s phone #? just send her a DM.
- Set some DND times. You’ll get all your messages when you get out of class/off of work.
- Change some channels to @mentions only. If the #sisterhood, #random, or #buy-and-sell channels get too chatty, feel free to change to notifications of @mentions only.
- Polls: I had to do an add-on to do them. Type /poll “Question?” “Yes” “No” “Abstain”. For Advanced options see the help documentation.
- Schedule future posts. Need to remind everyone that sign-ups close in a week? Just schedule your post in advance! At the end click the ⌄ on the right side of the post arrow. Pick a prefilled option or pick Custom time to pick your own date/time. Preschedule a reminder of Intermural games/practices in the #intermurals channel.
